Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns visited Ardee in Louth today to meet with the party’s local election candidate Niall McCreanor.
Niall, who is standing for the party in Ardee, said: “With the 2024 Local Elections just two months away, I’m grateful that Holly has taken the time to come to Ardee to meet with me and members of the community.
“Today I had an opportunity to introduce local community groups to Holly and discuss some of the issues affecting the Ardee area.
“This includes the need to rejuvenate Ardee’s Main Street. By collaborating with local businesses and residents, we want to create a vibrant and thriving town centre that fosters economic growth and community pride. Additionally, we want to see the opening of Ardee Castle as a tourist destination, which would attract visitors to our town.
“I also spoke to Holly about the need to reopen Dunleer train station, recognising its importance in connecting our area and enhancing accessibility for residents.
“I also raised the subject of the Ardee bypass. Ultimately, we are advocating for a solution that safeguards our environment, serves our community and ensures access to townlands. Our goal is to improve traffic flow, ease congestion and enhance safety in our community.”
Speaking in Ardee, Holly Cairns said:
“It is such a pleasure to be in Ardee today to meet with Niall and learn about some of the local issues he feels strongly about, such as the need to support local community organisations that play a pivotal role in providing services for the people of the area.
“This is a time of growth for the Social Democrats and I’m excited to see strong candidates like Niall standing for the party in this year’s local elections.
“Niall would make an excellent councillor for Ardee and would work tirelessly on behalf of his local community. I wish him the very best of luck with his election campaign and hope that as many people as possible will support him on June 7.”
