Community Historian Brendan Matthews will host a walk ‘n’ talk on Wednesday next June 8th beginning at Georges Street/Fair Street junction at 7.30pm.
Brendan will speak about the fascinating and significant history and heritage of the immediate area before moving up Georges Street via Hardmans Gardens and the Gravel Walk to the former location for an age-old Rope-making business and the extraordinary love-tale which stemmed from here.
From there Brendan will take the Walk to the Windmill Road/Bothar Brugha junction where a very interesting story about a young girl will be recalled.
The tour will then proceed through Bothar Brugha and speaking about Mother Mary Martin, the Walk will continue to the Hardmans Gardens/Pearse Park area where Brendan will speak about the `storied-past` of the surroundings here.
The Walk will then proceed through the secluded Church Street and Lourdes Square up through Moores Lane and where the evening will be brought to a close at Rope Walk in Upper Magdalene Street.
There is no charge for this event however donations will be very much appreciated towards the further research and study of Community History.
