The indoor courts at Gormanston College came alive on Sunday 10 November when hockey clubs from across the province descended for the Boyne Hockey u18 Indoor Tournament 2024.
Boyne Hockey had two teams playing throughout the day in a bid to secure a title but sadly, while a place in the play offs was a great achievement, they didn’t bring home the silverware.
The Corinthian’s girls team dominated the score boards all morning, but the play-offs changed things leading to a nail-biting final between Railway Union and Portrane, which ended in one v one (equivalent to a penalty shoot-out) to decide the winner.
In the end, Dublin team Railway Union managed to pip past Portrane to secure the Cup Final. Monkstown Hockey beat off Bray to be awarded the Shield and the overall winner for the Boys’ Tournament were Corinthian’s from Dublin 16.
Boyne Hockey was founded in 2009 but this was just the second year that the club ran an indoor tournament and it was deemed another success by those in attendance. We’re already looking forward to future indoor events for u16 and u12s in the coming months.
Boyne Indoor Hockey Tournament is in association with Leinster Hockey and sponsored by Quintana International, Blue Steel, Six-two Digital and City North Hotel.
Boyne Hockey receives grant funding from Louth County Council and Meath County Council and has annual sponsorship from Irish Cement, Landy Muldoon, Hibernia Steel, Hayes & Associates.
