Golf Classic to raise funds for three Drogheda brothers’ hospital expenses

Drogheda couple fundraising for treatment for their three sons with rare condition

Mary and Ian Barrett live at Highlands in Drogheda and their life has been pretty much taken over with caring for their three sons Brandon (21), Keane (20) and Kallum (16) who suffer from a rare condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS).

Because there is no treatment available in Ireland for the deilitating condition that affects the connective tissue of body, Mary and Ian are constantly fundraising to cover the cost of travelling abroad for treatment.

All three boys must attend Great Ormond Street and UCLH Hospitals in London several times a year and also when emergencies arise. Kallum has also started attending a hospital in Belgium to receive treatment for severe gastro complications.

All these trips are self-funding as the HSE do not cover it on the Treatment Abroad Scheme.

To keep the treatment going for their boys the couple are constantly organising fundraising events and the latest of these is a Golf Classic to be held at Hollywood Lakes Golf Club in Ballyboughal on Friday July 1st (see poster below).
