The Gardai have issued a warning about a new WhatsApp call scam trying to con people out of their cash.
In this instance the caller uses a Garda Siochana crest as their profile photo and their aim is to obtain your personal information, email address, and bank account details.
The Gardai say under no circumstances should you respond or give any of your personal information away.
The warning was issued after attempts were made to defraud people in the north east.
The force does not send private alerts asking for personal information to members of the public.
The Gardai have also issued a number of tips on how to avoid being conned by their unscrupulous fraudsters.
They said be suspicious of unsolicited messages or calls, never disclose personal details. If you are cold called by someone saying they are a member of the Gardai and they are looking for your bank account details or PPS number, ask them for their credentials and ring their Garda station to verify.
The police also said if you have been a victim of a scam contact your bank or financial institution immediately and report it to your local Gardai
