Gardaí have launched an investigation after offensive anti semitic graffiti was painted on roads in County Meath.
The latest incident occurred in the Bigstown and Shanlis areas outside Ardee, along the Louth and Meath border. The messages appeared overnight and mark the eleventh time similar graffiti has been reported.
Local residents are believed to have an idea who is responsible, and there is growing pressure on Gardaí to intervene and put a stop to the incidents.
Councillor Paddy Meade has called on Gardaí in both the Meath and Louth divisions to work together to address the issue and prevent further damage to public spaces.
He told LMFM radio in the north east:
This is completely unacceptable, and I’m urgently calling on both Garda Divisions that represent Louth and Meath to work together and have a serious talk with this man that is painting the roads and ask him politely or otherwise to stop doing it.
And sadly, I am calling on the council to go out and clean the roads and take them away for filling potholes because that’s how much paint there is out there.
We can’t leave these offensive remarks outside our schools and on our public roads.
Previous incidents have included nazi symbols and anti Jewish messages painted in the area.
