Garda issue appeals for witnesses in two local murder cases

Gardaí investigating two separate murders in the Louth/Meath area, one that occurred in 2014 in Collon, and another just three weeks ago in Dundalk, have issued appeals for witnesses to come forward.

Gardaí at Navan Garda Station are continuing to investigate the Murder of 26-year-old Paul Gallagher, who was shot dead in a field at Ballymacan, Slane, Co. Meath on Monday the 28th July 2014.

At approximately 10:30pm that night Gallagher travelled to Ballymacan, a townland close to the Louth/Meath boundary just West of Collon, in the company of another man.

Prior to arriving at Ballymacan, the pair were joined by two other men In Tullyallen village.

Two days later, Paul’s body was discovered in a field and reported to An Garda Síochána. He died from a number of gunshot wounds.

An Garda Síochána made appeals for public information at the time and on ‘Crimecall’ in September 2014. A number of arrests have been made in relation to this investigation but to date no person has been charged.

Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal for information in this case and believe that a number of people have yet to come forward who may now be in a position to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.

With the passage of time some person may now be in a position to provide information to investigating Gardaí that they could not provide at the time, or maybe some person who did provide information at the time may be now in a position to provide further information.

Witness Appeal – Murder Investigation, Dundalk, 5th July 2022

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Louth are investigating the death of 44-year-old, Marius Juodenas, following an incident in Dundalk on Tuesday, 5th July 2022.

Shortly before 7.00 pm, Gardaí attended a house on Barrack Street in Dundalk where Marius was discovered with serious injuries. He was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he was placed on life support.

He was pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital on Tuesday, 26th July 2022. A post-mortem was conducted at Dublin City mortuary, the results of which are not being released for operational reasons.

An incident room has been put in place at Dundalk Garda station and a murder investigation has now commenced under a Senior Investigating Officer. A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and continues to keep the family informed of the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are particularly appealing to those who were in the vicinity of Barrack Street between 6:30pm and 7:00pm on Tuesday 5th July 2022, to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
