The Droichead Arts Centre is to receive €70,000 in funding for the upgrading and development of their facilities.
The announcement was made this morning by Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin TD as part of a nationwide package worth almost €1.5m to assist the hard-hit arts and cultural sector.
€1,461,587 has been approved for 11 facilities nationwide under the Stream B of the Cultural Capital Scheme 19-22. An Táin Arts Centre in Dundalk is to receive a similar figure, €72,929.
Local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, said “This is great news for both Art Centres, the capital scheme is prioritising projects that reduce an organisation’s carbon footprint and also that can increase capacity for artists and artistic production.
“The Cultural Capital Scheme 2019-2022 will run until 2022 and will focus on enhancing the existing stock of arts and culture centres throughout the country.
“This Scheme which has four separate streams of funding, builds on the success of the former Arts and Culture Capital Scheme 2016-2018. O’Dowd added
“The Arts sector has been devastated by the pandemic and consistent and sustainable funding streams will be a major part of the sector rebuilding over the years ahead.
“Today’s announcement will bring the total awarded under this scheme to date to almost €2.5m out of an available €4.7m with further announcements due shortly.”
Dundalk bsed Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has also welcomed the awards to the two Louth Arts Centres.
“The cultural and artistic contribution that An Táin makes to county Louth cannot be underestimated” she said. “As a board member I see the dedication of the staff.
“I cannot wait to see what this funding brings for us to enjoy.”
