Drogheda’s free walk-in COVID-19 test centre to remain open until Monday

The HSE are extending the opening of the free walk-in COVID-19 testing site in Drogheda until next Monday, May 31st.

The facility at Bolton Square Carpark, Bolton Street, Drogheda (Eircode: A92 DKR0) will operate for an additional 3 days. No appointment is necessary to avail of this free service. It will be open on Saturday May 29th and Sunday May 30th from 10am to 6pm, and on Monday May 31st from 11am to 7pm.

The temporary walk-in COVID-19 test centre is an operation led by HSE (Public Health Department North East, Midlands Louth Meath Community Healthcare Organisation and the National Ambulance Service) in conjunction with Louth County Council to identify cases of COVID-19 and reduce further transmission in the community.

The decision by Public Health Department North East to open a free COVID-19 ‘walk-in’ test centre in Drogheda, is in response to the increase in cases in the Drogheda electoral areas in recent weeks.

Outbreaks in recent weeks include households, families and extended families, a number of indoor social gatherings, workplaces and community transmission.

The free ‘walk-in no appointment necessary’ COVID-19 test centre in Drogheda is open to members of the public of any age with no symptoms and those who have symptoms or are close contacts. Members of the public will need to bring photo ID and provide a mobile phone number in order to provide test results.

Dr Augustine Pereira, Director of Public Health North East, said “Drogheda is a key example of how a community positively responds to a crisis, as it is evident that protecting the public has been the people’s number one priority. We can continue this positive response by availing of the free walk-in COVID-19 test centre, avoiding social mixing and large indoor gatherings, working remotely where possible, wearing masks, socially distancing when in contact with others, and washing hands frequently,”

“Taking up this opportunity for a free COVID-19 test even when you don’t have symptoms will help us as we continue to manage COVID-19 cases & outbreaks in the community. The free walk-in COVID-19 test centre in Drogheda will provide a warm welcome and an efficient, safe testing service to everyone who comes forward for a test.” he added.

Mayor of Drogheda, Councillor Kevin Callan welcomed the extension and said that he got tested there last week and was surprised at how easy and quick it was.

“I would urge the people of Drogheda to pop into the centre and get tested to protect your loved ones” he said. “Together we can do this Drogheda!”
