Drogheda United welcome Waterford FC to Sullivan and Lambe Park on Friday night for the first home fixture of the 2026 season for Kevin Doherty’s side.
The Boynesiders come into the game on the back of a positive start to the campaign, having recorded a 1–0 away victory over Galway United on the opening night of the season.
Several players made their first starts for the club in that match, including Edwin Agbaje, Leo Burney, Ethan O’Brien and Brandon Kavanagh, while Mark Doyle made his first start since returning to Drogheda United.
Agbaje went close early on, firing just over the crossbar from 15 yards after nine minutes. Galway United threatened midway through the first half when Wasiri Williams struck the bar, before Jimmy Keohane sent a shot narrowly wide. The hosts were also given a major opportunity on 65 minutes, but David Hurley missed from the penalty spot after Andrew Quinn fouled Keohane.
The decisive moment came in stoppage time when recent signing Jago Godden marked his debut with the winning goal. Two days after joining the club, the midfielder found the far corner after Ryan Brennan held off a defender to play the ball into the path of the midfielder.
Last season’s meetings between Drogheda United and Waterford FC were evenly matched, with both sides recording 2–0 home victories and sharing the points in the remaining two fixtures, which ended 0–0 and 2–2.
There are no injury concerns for Drogheda United ahead of Friday night’s game.
