Direct Democracy Ireland have announced the appointment of Drogheda Man Chris Faulkner as the new Chairman of their National Executive.
At just 23, Chris’s appointment makes him the youngest National Chairman of any registered political party in Ireland, since the foundation of the state.
Chris said “It is both a privilege and an honour to be elected as the National Chairman of DDI and I accept it with a sense of duty.
“I plan to oversee a new-era for DDI, in my opinion, we are the only party offering the people of Ireland an ethical approach to politics with genuine family values, free of any immoral history unlike the current status quo.
“One of my many goals will be to encourage young people to become involved in politics to establish themselves in society in order to affect healthy changes with a fresh way of thinking.
Spokesperson and Leader of DDI, Pat Greene, added: “The appointment of Chris Faulkner as Chairman of our National executive is history in the making, however Chris was an obvious choice, age never came into it and nor should it have, especially at a time when we should be encouraging younger people like Chris to become more actively involved in politics.
“Chris was unanimously elected on his merits, proving DDI is a Party that thinks and acts differently to all others. His commitment to DDI and the energy he demonstrates are exactly what DDI needs at this time, we are poised for a re-launch as part of the strategy for the modernisation of DDI and the new approach to how a political party should function.
“Our membership has remained steady and loyal despite our lack of success, our membership appreciate how DDI stands out from all other Parties, our emphasis is on, and always will be on effecting genuine change, change that will benefit the people of Ireland, free of Party rhetoric and the civil war politics that has dominated this country’s political landscape for far too long.”
The outgoing DDI Chairman Joe Cunningham decided to step-down last week and will instead focus on Policy development. Pat Greene said: “Joe Cunningham was Chairman of DDI for over 5 years during this time he worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Party and we are sorry to lose him as Chairman but delighted that he remains on the national executive”.
When questioned on the rumours that DDI was in the process of merging with another political Party Greene stated “As I said previously, DDI is in the process of confirming a relaunch in a bid to modernise the Party, a merger with any political party that shares our principles is always an option, but in answer to your question, yes we are in talks with other parties, however I must stress no decisions have been made as of yet, our full focus is on the DDI Re-launch.”
