Former hurler and star of the TV programmes Ireland’s Fittest Family and Davy’s Toughest Team, Davy Fitzgerald, will be delivering the keynote address at an event being organised by the Drogheda Implementation Board to be held in Drogheda Institute of Education Saturday the 21st October from 10am to 1pm.
The event, which will bring together sporting organisations from the Drogheda and Laytown-Bettystown areas, will be opened by Minister Thomas Byrne and is an opportunity for clubs and organisations of all codes and sizes to come together, review actions relating to sports in the Drogheda Report Implementation Plan, develop responses to those actions, and consider ways to leverage amenities in the area.
The positive impact of sport on individuals and communities has been proven time and again. In fact, research in Ireland and abroad shows that young people who are involved in organised sporting activity are less likely to be involved in antisocial behaviour.
The value of physical activity on social and emotional wellbeing for people of all ages is also well recognised. This is also recognised in the Drogheda Report Implementation Plan, a document published by government in response to concerns about rising levels of crime in Drogheda in the 2018-2020 period.
Spaces are limited for this event so prebooking is required. Anyone interested in attending should contact Drogheda Implementation Board at implementationboard@lmetb.ie or 0861083903.
Bookings close at 1pm on Monday 16th October.
