Drogheda has to continue to reinvent itself says Chamber President

“Drogheda has to continue to reinvent itself and bring new ideas to the table, at both a local and national level, because standing still is not an option.” That was the message of Drogheda and District Chamber President, Hubert Murphy, at the organisation’s Christmas Networking Lunch.

Guest speaker at the event, which was held in the d Hotel and sponsored by the Louth Enterprise Office, was Enda O’Doherty who delivered a five-star motivational talk that will hopefully inspire some great ideas around town in 2024.

As well as being an inspirational speaker, Enda O’Doherty is also an accomplished endurance athlete who has conquered such challenges as Ironman Sweden and Ironman UK.

These gruelling races include a 4 km swim, a challenging 180 km bike ride, and a full marathon. Not easy, but then nothing in life worth achieving is.

Tredagh Lodge Day Care Centre, who were the charity partners on the day, have also conquered some very big challenges including providing the people of Drogheda with what is considered to be the best day care centre in Ireland for people suffering from that most distressing of conditions, Alzheimer ‘s disease.

Gerry Leydon from the Drogheda branch of the Alzheimer’s Association, told Drogheda Life that to get the Tredagh Lodge Day Care Centre up and running was a major achievement for all involved.

“It has been a fabulous journey and the Drogheda business community have been very supportive as have the general public who have played an important part in it” he said.

“We are now putting the final touches to our dementia friendly garden which should be completed soon and we are looking forward to it being in full bloom next summer.”

In his presidential address Hubert Murphy said “It was great to end 2023 with such an occasion and as ever Enda was a great person to bring some impetus to the event. As we look to 2024, there is a clear message from Drogheda and District Chamber to the community and business world and that’s to face the challenges together.

“Drogheda has to continue to reinvent itself and bring new ideas to the table, at both a local and national level, because standing still is not an option,” he added.

“The growth of the town is set to reach new heights in the coming years and now is the time to plan for that.

“The past year has seen the chamber welcome guests from Turkey, China, India, and the USA as part of a strategic plan to increase business opportunities in the region.”
