Drogheda family holds Christmas in May to welcome son home

Turkey and all the trimmings on the hottest day of the year!

Christmas comes but once a year but one Drogheda family ignored that concept recently when they threw a Christmas party for their son who couldn’t get home in December due to Covid travel restrictions.

Last Christmas was marred for many families all over the world who had empty places at the table because loved ones could not travel home due to the travel ban.

For Jim and Ann McVeigh it was the second consecutive Christmas without their son Jordan being there and they vowed that no matter when he came home next they would do Christmas then

Jordan and his wife Hayley have been living and working in Germany for the past three years but last Month they moved home, initially to Jim and Ann’s house for two weeks self-isolation and then more recently to a house on the Dublin Road from where Jordan works for the German company.

Jordan turned 30 during his time in Germany which was another missed celebration but he didn’t suspect a thing when Ann and Jim invited them round for dinner.

When they arrived at the house though, they got the surprise of their lives!

Jordan’s parents, sisters Allana, Caoife, Myia and Clara, his niece Lillith and his Aunt/Godmother Joan and Milo the dog were all there to greet them.

“Happy Christmas!” came the cry from the assembled family who were all wearing Christmas jumpers, “Happy Christmas and Happy thirtieth birthday too!”

There followed the party of a lifetime and Jordan’s mother, Ann McVeigh, had prepared a Christmas feast like no other. There was turkey and ham, Christmas crackers with corny jokes, plum pudding and not one forgetting the Christmas tree!

Not bad for what was the hottest day of the year so far!

Jordan says the 30th birthday party with his mates will have to wait just a little bit longer.
