At the end of June each year, runners and spectators alike look forward to the St. Coca’s A.C. 5K in Kilcock which has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting 5K events in Leinster, thanks to its fast and flat course that lends itself to blistering times.
Drawing the best athletes from clubs across Leinster and beyond, this race is a showcase of speed, determination, and the unwavering spirit of competition.
The 2023 event showcased an incredible display of athleticism. Efrem Gidey of Clonliffe Harriers A.C. put on a remarkable performance, breaking the course record with a time of 13:47 and almost an entire 1 minute lead. Gidey’s exceptional run set a new benchmark for future participants, leaving the other athletes in awe and the crowd erupting in applause.
This year, the participants from Drogheda & District A.C. proved their mettle, leaving an indelible mark on the event. Among the sea of talent, the athletes from DDAC proved themselves as formidable competitors. With almost 20 of the finest athletes participating, the red vests of Drogheda & District were prominent and filled with promise.
Leading the pack was Liam Mulligan, showcasing his exceptional abilities by crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 15:18, securing 13th place overall. Hot on his heels were Colin Leonard and Robbie Keane, displaying their prowess with times of 15:43 and 15:48, respectively. Keane’s performance was particularly noteworthy as he achieved a personal best, a testament to his hard work and dedication.
Notable performances continued throughout the Drogheda & District A.C. roster. Colm Reilly showcased his determination, setting a new personal best of 16:41, while Dave Gallagher displayed his resilience, finishing in a commendable time of 17:14. John Cooper and Ciara O’Reilly pushed their limits, showcasing their endurance with times of 18:50 and 21:21, respectively and Hugh Callan left his mark with a time of 22:06, showing his dedication to his training and climbing back up the ranks.

The St. Coca’s A.C. 5K in Kilcock once again delivered an unforgettable race, brimming with excitement and breathtaking performances. The record-breaking triumph of Efrem Gidey set a new standard, while the athletes from Drogheda & District A.C. showcased their talents, leaving their mark on the event. As the cheers of the crowd echoed through the streets of Kilcock, it was clear that the St. Coca’s A.C. 5K had once again solidified its status as a must-attend event for runners and enthusiasts alike.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Christopher Keenan proved himself as a formidable competitor at the National U20 & U23 Outdoor Championships, where he faced off against the best athletes in his category from across the country. In the highly competitive 1500-metre event, Keenan showcased his talent and determination, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 4:06.71.
His achievements thus far have made Drogheda & District A.C. immensely proud, as Keenan had a strong track and field season, leaving a mark on every race he participated in. As his promising performances continue to catch attention, Christopher Keenan is undoubtedly an athlete to watch closely in the coming seasons.

Earlier in the week, the preliminary round of the National Track & Field League took place in Santry on June 25th, setting the stage for a day of intense competition. James English and Andrew Kelly, representing Co. Louth, showcased their exceptional talents and continued their impressive form.
Throughout the season, both athletes had consistently delivered outstanding results, and this event was no exception. James English demonstrated his speed and prowess in the 200m race, securing an impressive third-place finish with a time of 21.64. Andrew Kelly displayed his strength and endurance in the 400m, achieving another notable third-place finish while setting a new personal best of 51.85. Their stellar performances once again highlighted their dedication and skill in the realm of track and field.
