This week (August 14th – 20th) is “Her Outdoors Week” where women’s participation in sport and outdoor activities is promoted.
It is also “Heritage Week” in which our rich history is highlighted and celebrated so Drogheda Cycling Group is combining these two initiatives to create a leisure cycling event on Sunday 20th August.
The event is open to all women. Teenage girls from age 13 are also welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
Starting at St Dominick’s Bridge at 10.00 am we will cycle to Old Mellifont Abbey where we will get a guided tour of this historical site.
From there we will take the scenic route down King William’s Glen and across the Obelisk Bridge and follow the Boyne River back to Drogheda where some well-earned coffee and cakes will be provided.
The distance is 20km and while there are some hills we will be cycling at a leisurely pace. This is not a competitive event. The emphasis is on enjoying a day out.
We have run women only events in the past which have been very successful. We hope to welcome the same women again as well as new participants.
As usual, helmets are mandatory. Bikes must be in good working order but if you would like to have the tyres pumped or other light maintenance please turn up 15 minutes early. We can provide hi-vis vests if necessary.
The event is free of charge but participants must register. This can be done on the Her Outdoors website or the Drogheda Cycling Group Facebook page.
