Drogheda Cycling Group organise women’s cycle for HER Outdoors Week

The national HER Outdoors Week takes place next month and the Drogheda Cycling Group has organised a women-only cycle to encourage more females to get on their bikes and out into the countryside and the fresh air.

Cycling is great form of exercise and in Drogheda we are blessed with some beautiful countryside right on our doorstep so why not give this organised cycle a go?

The event takes place on Sunday, August 20th starting at 10.00 am at St. Dominic’s Bridge and cycling to Old Mellifont Abbey and finishing at around 2.00 pm at Courtyard Coffee on Merchant’s Quay.

That’s a distance of 20kms which might sound daunting but you’ll be in great company and the craic should be “mighty”. The sense of achievement when you finish will be immense.

This is a leisure cycle for women of all ages and teenagers from age 13 (must be accompanied by an adult). The emphasis is on leisure, it’s definitely not a race so you don’t have to be super-fit. There are some hills but you can always walk up them if you need to, nobody’s judging!

There will be a guided tour of Mellifont Abbey before the cycle back to town and refreshments will be provided at the finishing point. Bike helmets are required.

There is no charge for this event but you must register your interest which you can do by CLICKING HERE

HER Outdoors Week 2023 is taking place from 14th-20th August to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for females to get involved in outdoor physical activity.
