Drogheda Creative Writers return to The Highlanes Gallery on April 27th at 2 -3.30 pm to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland 2023.
This year’s theme, Message in a Bottle, was chosen by poet and curator of the day, Martina Evans. Her choice was inspired by the words of German poet Paul Celan: “A poem can be a message in a bottle sent out in the – not always greatly hopeful- belief that somewhere and sometime it could wash up on land or heartland perhaps.”
“Paul’s idea of a poem as a message in a bottle reminds us that no poem is an island- it needs a reader to complete the process, to uncork the bottle” said Spokesperson Marian Clarke.
“So, in that spirit, we invite you to join us as we “pop the cork” to release the talent that lives and breathes within our group.
“We promise to keep nothing “bottled up” this year, so prepare to be entertained! Here is our message to you: Come along, and enjoy refreshments and poetry, (and perhaps a little music ) in the beautiful space of The Highlanes Gallery.
“We would like to thank Aoife and her staff, who are so kind and welcoming to us always.”
DCW meet every second Monday of the month in The Living Room at Sarsfields at 7.30pm, thanks to Joxer (Coleman Sarsfield) for his support.
Also on the first Saturday of every month at 2.30- 4 pm in the Augustinian family room / Garden (weather permitting) (thanks to Fr Colm). All writers are welcome.
