Drogheda band Modernlove sign worldwide record deal

We first came across Drogheda band Modernlove some years ago when they played at the Maritime Festival.

A year or so later they won the final of the Firestone Battle of the Bands in Clarkes Bar and graduated from to gigs at Vantastival and Electric Picnic.

But now their ship really has come in with the news that they have just signed a worldwide recording deal with the ultra-cool UK label Akira Records.

On Wednesday next, June 9, they are due to release the first single for Akira ‘lmk (if you wanna see me) which is taken from their debut EP called ‘Monochrome Blue’.

‘Monochrome Blue’ has been produced by Gianluca Buccellati (Arlo Parks, Biig Piig) and Adam Redmond (milk., All Tvvins), mixed by Pedro Calloni (Sasha Sloan, LANY) and mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Wolf Alice).

As their name suggests, modernlove explore the complexities of life as experienced of twenty-somethings.

Modern Love comprises of Barry Lally (lead vocal & guitar), Graham Fagan (guitar, synth & vocals), Danny Rooney (bass, synth & vocals) and Cian Mc Cluskey (drums, sounds & vocals), all from Drogheda, and they deliver polished, indie-pop with a glossy ’90s sheen and intricate details.

Each of the six radio-ready tracks on Monochrome Blue’ confronts issues such as romance, rejection, 21st-century communication and the daily impact of all three.

Modernlove as we first knew them back in 2018.

To celebrate the EP release, Modernlove will be playing The Workman’s Club Cellar on November5 and their first London show at The Social on November 12.

The release is receiving a big push on both sides of the Atlantic which will hopefully see the band breakthrough internationally.
