Work by young Drogheda artist James Moonan took pride of place on the front cover of the 2022 National Credit Union Calendar after he won first place in the National competition’s 14 – 17 years category.
The 2022 calendar also features artwork from Mary Catherine Grimes and students in St. Ita’s School, Drogheda.
The talented artists prevailed against strong competition from all over Ireland. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Imagine’ which encouraged participants to explore their thoughts, hopes and dreams, and portray them on paper or canvass.
Competition judge Tony Conaghy of Droichead Arts Centre, awarded the initial accolades before sending the local winners to chapter and eventually National levels.
Tony said “It was a pleasure to judge such a skilled group of aspiring artists. The talent is Drogheda is unmistakable, congratulations to everyone who entered into the competition, you did not give me an easy job!”
The ‘Imagine’ Credit Union Art Competition is renowned for engaging art enthusiasts over the years and has been a feature of life for young and old throughout Ireland for decades. This competition plays an important role in promoting the culture of art in our communities.
Tom Kiely, CEO, Drogheda Credit Union, commented “Drogheda is bursting with talented artists, we are delighted to be able to facilitate the Credit Union Art Competition to showcase those capabilities.
“I would like to extend my congratulations once again to James, Mary and class LL1 from St. Ita’s school. The 2022 competition will launch later this year. We encourage all budding artists to keep creative all year round and get practicing for the next competition.”
