This Sunday, March 24th, Drogheda Animal Rescue will be launching a subsidised cat neutering scheme which will be open to anyone who has an un-neutered cat – either male or female.
The aim of this scheme is to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies in the feline population in the Northeast by offering low-cost neutering. Cat owners may avail of this scheme by purchasing vouchers directly from DAR for €30 each. DAR will cover the remaining cost of the neutering from funding received by the Department of Agriculture – Animal Welfare Grant.
The local vets taking part in this scheme are Allpets, Westgate, O’Dowd, and Avenue Veterinary Hospitals, and there will be no time-limit when the vouchers may be redeemed.
DID YOU KNOW? – a study has shown that theoretically, a single pair of cats and their offspring can potentially yield 420,000 cats over a seven-year period. This assumes 12-kittens per year from one pair of cats, with approximately five those twelve kittens being female. These in turn go on to breed, and so the cycle continues.
There is no doubt that there are just too many cats in Ireland for the number of available homes, and this major issue is echoed around the world. Cats suffer needlessly producing litter after litter. You can help to break this vicious circle.
DAR will be on-hand to sell these vouchers at the following Drogheda locations. They can also be purchased online.
- Pet Bliss – Sunday March 24th – 12 to 6 PM
- Max Zoo – Saturday March 30th – 12 to 6 PM
- Mutz Nutz – Southgate Shopping Centre: Saturday April 13th, 12 to 6 PM
Terms & Conditions apply. To learn more about the subsidised cat neutering scheme, contact DAR by email or send a message to their Facebook page.
