Drogheda animal Rescue receives €51k funding on Animal Welfare Awareness Day

 

Today is Animal Welfare Awareness Day and €131,863 i funding has been secured for three Louth animal welfare charities with Drogheda Animal Rescue, the largest recipient organisation, getting €51,563.

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue T.D, today (Thursday 7th December 2023) announced funding of €6 million to 101 animal welfare charities nationwide – an increase of €200,000 on last year.

This year, there is an additional focus on supporting charities involved in rehoming dogs.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said:

“This is very welcome funding that is being delivered at a key time of the year, the Department has put a special focus this year on supporting charities involved in rehoming dogs.

“Our local Animal Welfare organisations provide critical care and protection to at risk animals in the county.

O’Dowd added “On this the third ever Animal Welfare Awareness Day, I want take the opportunity to highlight and recognise the outstanding work and contribution of the staff and volunteers who work in these organisations.”

The other organisation to receive funding are Dundalk Dog Rescue (€29,950) and Louth SPCA (€50,350)
