County Louth Lady Captain’s charity day raises €11,500 for Jack and Jill

A fund-raising day organised by Marie Maguire, the Lady Captain of County Louth Golf Club, has raised over €11, 00 for The Jack and Jill Foundation which will provide over 620 hours of home nursing care for sick children.

“The fact that this Charity was founded on the struggle a family endured in caring for their sick child, gave me the reason to help the Jack and Jill Foundation” Marie said.

“The Jack and Jill Foundation was set up 25 years ago by two parents, Mary Ann O’Brien and Jonathan Irwin. It was based on their own experience in caring for their son Jack at home with the help of local nurses until Jack passed away 22 months later.

“Jack’s home care nursing plan became the blueprint for over 2,700 children who have been supported by Jack and Jill since then. Mary Ann and Jonathan vowed that no parents should have to walk this journey alone.

“They set about establishing a practical home care nursing model and raising funds to deliver it.

“What differentiates Jack and Jill from other Charities is that it is an ongoing care commitment to families in the home. Jack and Jill nurses become a key part of the families care regime in their child’s early years, from birth to six years or until the child passes away.

“This requires significant investment and care from the Charity as Jack and Jill provides the funding as well as the expertise to the families they support.

“Being aware of the supports provided, I was confident that the Jack and Jill Charity would benefit greatly from the large club membership.

“Indeed the Charity Day raised 11,500 euro net, and it gives me enormous joy and happiness to have contributed to the welfare of sick children and their families. Just as life is ongoing , Jack and Jill are also a constant in the lives of those most in need of support.”
