Christmas is a very busy time of the year for the fantastic people at the Connect Family Resource Centra (FRC) in Moneymore.
Last weekend they started their annual food appeal and they were amazed at the response from their volunteers and from the wider community.
“Considering the current cost of living crisis we were overwhelmed at the response we received, it has been the best year yet!” said spokeswoman Julie Aspell.
“We were able to make 200 food hampers for families in need from the Drogheda area” she added.
“We had over 30 volunteers out and about helping over the weekend and they all worked very hard in achieving this super donation.”
Yesterday was the big occasion of the year for many older people in the area who were invited to the active age lunch in the Glenside Hotel.
This is always a great afternoon as friends who may not have seen much of each other during the year get a chance to catch up on the news and share the gossip.
The craic was already in full swing when we arrived with the Drogheda Life camera and lots of familiar faces were smiling into the lens.
Some of the style was great with Christmas jumpers and hats all round every table as guests waited for the Glenside lunch which, as everyone knows is renowned throughout Ireland.
Just before I left a man with a bushy white beard whispered into my ear that Santa will be visiting the Connect House from 3.00 pm on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 12.
