Community Win: Marymount National School and Parents Secure Vital Resources for Students

Marymount National School has secured a major increase in Special Needs Assistant (SNA) support for its mainstream classes, rising from 2.5 SNAs to four.

The news comes after a successful appeal to the National Council for Special Education (NCSE), marking a significant win for the school community.

The decision follows months of sustained effort by the school, supported by parents and local representatives, to highlight the growing needs of students.

An NCSE review had previously confirmed that two additional SNAs were required, but the initial allocation fell short. The school’s appeal has now delivered the resources needed to ensure a more inclusive environment for its pupils.

Speaking about the outcome, Senator Alison Comyn said the increase in SNAs is a “real victory for the students, staff, and families of Marymount.”

She acknowledged the “tireless advocacy and persistence” of the school community and said she would continue to work with them for further progress.

The result is being hailed as a testament to what can be achieved when schools, parents, and public representatives work together to secure essential resources for children’s education.
