When two local men, poet Anthony Matthews and musician Sean Mathews, met up for a coffee recently the conversation turned to the possibility of them combining their talents to come up with a Christmas song.
After coffee Anthony and Sean visited the Nano Reid exhibition currently showing at the Highlanes Gallery and were gobsmacked when they saw one of Nano’s paintings called “The Good Going Up to Heaven and the Wicked Going Down to Hell“.
This was like a sign to them as, just minutes before, they had been talking about angels and how they are an intrinsic part of Christmas.
The creative juices were well and truly flowing by now and, by the next day, Anthony had written the first draft of a new poem called “First Christmas Day in Heaven“.
Sean followed up with a song idea for the poem with some words added to help develop the air.
Things then reached a whole new level when one of Drogheda’s most accomplished musical talents Gerry Simpson began to produce and arrange the song.
Gerry managed to help build a beautiful arrangement in an astonishing amount of time with his dependable and professional service.
