“I’m bored, there’s nothing to do in Drogheda.” Parents of teenagers will no doubt be familiar with those complaints from their kids, but an event is being organised for January to show just how much there is for them to get involved with.
The event, Youth Connect Fest, is being organised by the SICAP (Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme) Network of Youth Services for Droghedaand they are inviting youth organisations to take a stand.
Sports, dance, art, music, scouting and many other activities will be showcased with goodie bags, raffle prizes, entertainment and fashion shows available on the day.
Taking place on the afternoon of Saturday 27th January in the Laurence’s Shopping Centre, the event is being organised by a network of local organisations that plan and coordinate supports and services for young people in the Drogheda community.
Emily Murray, a member of the organising committee and Foróige’s CABLE Project’s Senior Youth Officer said:
“….There is so much good stuff happening in Drogheda but sometimes people are just not aware of it. By bringing as many of these activities and supports under one roof as possible at one event we aim to make it easier for young people to connect with them.”
Catrina Culligan, Coordinator of Boomerang Youth Café said:
“The last time an event of this scale showing the many activities available to young people in Drogheda was back in 2010. We reached 2,000 young people at that event and hope to make this event even bigger and better.
“We would like to invite any clubs, groups or organisations offering activities for children and young people to get in touch if they would like to host a stand on the 27th January.”
The SICAP Network of Youth Services for Drogheda would like to see as many clubs, groups, organisations, dance schools, scouts, girl guides or any others providing activities for children and young people in Drogheda showcased at this event.
The event is funded by Louth CYPSC so there is no charge to host a stand but early booking is encouraged as spaces are limited, contact Eileen McDermott at eileen.mcdermott@lldc.ie or Christina King at christina.king@lldc.ie for more information or to book your stand.
