Louth County Council is inviting members of the public to a drop–in consultation event on Wednesday 8th May to give their views and comments on how Clogherhead can be enhanced as an attractive and vibrant place to live, work, shop and visit.
The local community is encouraged to come along to the community centre in Clogherhead between 4:00pm – 8:00pm to meet with urban design consultants Building Design Partnership Ltd (BDP), who have been appointed by Louth County Council, to prepare a Plan for the village centre.
Clogherhead was awarded funding to develop a town centre plan under the Government’s Town Centre First Policy. The policy aims to tackle vacancy, combat dereliction and breathe new life into our village centres. The policy also recognises that every town or village is unique and lays the foundation for each community to develop their own plan led path forward. It is the second village in County Louth to revieve funding after Dunleer was chosen under the first phase of 26 nationwide towns.
The non-statutory plan will create a vision and set out specific objectives and interventions to help re-imagine and revitalise the village centre. When completed, the plan will be used to seek government funding, attract both public/private investment into the village and provide a collaborative roadmap in shaping the village’s future progressive and sustainable evolution.
Louth County Council is seeking input on the current issues facing the community. All aspects will be considered from retail offering, community services and facilities, public/recreational space, reuse of vacant properties, tackling dereliction, heritage/tourism potential and movement around the village – active travel, traffic, beach access and parking.
The design team want to ensure that all local knowledge and potential ideas from the community are captured and reflected in the objectives and interventions of the plan.
As part of the public consultation process, Louth County Council will also be conducting an online survey for the purposes of gathering valuable information and feedback from the public in the coming weeks. The consultation period will open from Wednesday 8th May 2024 until Wednesday 22nd May 2024. The Louth County Council online consultation portal will also facilitate you in accessing the online survey and the information presented at the drop–in consultation event. The portal can be accessed at https://consult.louthcoco.ie/
