The Annual Polar Plunge takes place at Clogherhead Beach this coming Saturday, December 2nd at 2.00 pm to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes locally and nationwide.
Special Olympics Ireland has been running this event and other Polar Plunges around the country for the past 21 years. They are run in conjunction with An Garda Siochana in the South and the PSNI in Northern Ireland.
In March 2024, Special Olympics Ireland athletes will take part in the Ireland Winter Games which is a qualifying event for the Special Olympics World Winter Games to be held in Turin, Italy in 2025.
Special Olympics Ireland are hoping that you will get behind the athletes and support them in their bid for sporting success and qualifying for Turin.
“With your support and the support of our long-term charity partner, Gala Retail, we know it will be bigger and better than ever!” said a spokesperson.
The Polar Plunge is open to all, whether you are a swimmer, dipper or just fancy a challenge or a fun festive event. To sign up for the Clogherhead Polar Plunge CLICK HERE

The organisers are encouraging groups to take part in this festive challenge to help increase the fun factor and also to help raise more funds.
If you would sign up a group of five or more people the organisers will waive your registration fee and support you with setting up a fundraising page.
Once this is done they will send you a festive fundraising pack in the post with Posters, T-shirts, swim hats and other festive items to help make your polar plunge experience even cooler!
