Christmas fun at Boyne AC’s last outing of the year

As Christmas fast approaches and 2021 draws to a close, the young members of Boyne AC enjoyed their final training session of the year on Saturday.

Working hard, while enjoying a few treats along the way, over 50 of Boyne’s juvenile athletes certainly enjoyed the session, donning their best Christmas hats for the occasion!

Training has now finished for all groups, with sessions due to return early in the New Year.

Sunday saw some of Boyne’s senior group out on the roads for the ever popular Drogheda & District Christmas 5k.

Always a well organised event, the race provides for that last blow out of the legs before the festivities start, and 20 Boyne AC athletes took to the start line for the occasion.

First home for the club in a speedy 17.26mins was Andrew White, making light work of the fast route. Jack Devitt crossed the line in 21.05, followed closely by brothers Harry and Louis, with mum Noreen running a super 23.16.

Molly Haworth was delighted to crack the 30 minute mark, as she ran a fine 28.14, ably paced by Catherine Tiernan Bell, with Ola Raji also clocking 28.14 as she makes a great return to action following a nasty injury.

Also aiming for that sub 30, Jean Marie Nawn proved her worth as she finished in 28.35 with the support of clubmate Timi Oluwabowale. Running her first 5k for the club, Deirdre Cadden was all smiles as she also crossed the line just inside the sub 30, running a super 29.19.

Blathnaid Wall and Michelle Crosbie ran a fine 31.28 and 31.49 respectively, with Jackie Clarke and Joan Cadden not far behind in 33.14 and 33.28. Lisa Collier supported her dad Michael along the course, with both crossing the line in 34.07, while junior member Hannah Newman, more used to the shorter sprint distances, ran a super 35.22.

Also running well were the Fagan family, with mum Louise and brother and sister Cara and Finbar all having a great race.

Boyne AC will hold their inaugural GOAL mile on Stephen’s day at 11am in Meadow View Field, registration can be made through the GOAL website or on the day, and all are welcome to come along, to walk or jog and support this worthy cause.
