Independent Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Drogheda, Kevin Callan, has said that the parking situation at St Dominic’s Park is unacceptable and that additional spaces are required to keep pace with demand for one of the town’s most important park and playground areas.
Councillor Callanis calling on Louth County Counci to add parking spaces to the twenty spaces and two disabled spaces that are currently available.
“The car park, which is accessed from the Rathmullan Road, has a number of issues that require attention” Cllr. Callan said.
“Firstly, the spaces are for people using the playground and park but is also used by people who start off from that location to walk the Ramparts.
“The current situation is not working and is not fair on people who are travelling by car to visit the area who have no other locations to park along the Rathmullan Road.
“I am requesting the council take two steps, firstly to extend parking at the park within the current area by widening the parking area, we should at a minimum look to double the current parking layout and we should also increase safety features inside the entrance to ensure children are protected by railings from oncoming traffic.
“This area is greatly used by the people of the area as an outdoor amenity and it is for this reason that we should expand the facilities that are required to keep pace with demand.”
