Byrne appointed to PAC and two other Dáil committees

Louth Sinn Féin TD Joanna Byrne has been appointed to the Dáil Public Accounts Committee, the most powerful of the 28 political panels.

Deputy Byrne who is the Sinn Féin front bench spokesperson on Communications, Media, Art, and Sport has also been appointed to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Media, Art, and Sport.

She is also a member of The Dáil Reform Committee since January, which came to prominence during the speaking rights row at the start of the Dáil term.

Speaking after her appointment Deputy Byrne said “Although the Public Accounts Committee would be better known, the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Media, Art, and Sport played a huge role in the last Dáil term, especially in looking at the issues facing RTE, and highlighting the issues in the FAI in the term before that, which have thankfully been addressed now.

“Those examples show just how important the committees work is.

“People are sick of seeing their taxes wasted by successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael governments, and they want to know that every government body or anything funded by the public purse is well run and accountable.

“That is what I will be doing. It is a huge honour for me to be appointed to these committees, in my first Dáil term and I am most grateful for the opportunity to serve on all three committees.

“I look forward to the work ahead.”
