The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service (BFRRS) is one of those organisations that is right at the very heart of the local community.
They are the ultimate professionals at what they do, which is not always a pleasant task, and they put themselves on the line, day or night and in all weathers, to hopefully save lives but often to search for people who have perished.
From humble beginnings working from a shed in Pearse Park, in 2008 they graduated to a purpose built facility at their boathouse on the Marsh Road but now that too is in need of an upgrade so they have turned to the community for help.
Over the years demand on the services has increased and they now need to put further investment into the building structure of the boathouse to enhance energy efficiency and insulation.
The cost of carrying out the necessary work would have a major impact on the fundraising required for the day to day running of the service so they have launched a special appeal.
“We set a target to try get assistance and support from the community to upgrade the Lighting and insulation which in return will cut costs” spokesperson Jason Clarke said.
“In February Energy Efficient Homes stepped forward to help and do the refit with the best possible products available. They will lead the project majority alongside Wogans build centre and a few local businesses soon to be revealed.
“BUT as an organisation we need to raise €6,000 to complete the works.
“We would like to ask everyone to share, click on donate and make a secure donation to help get this project across the line.
“As Drogheda’s fully equipped water rescue and recovery service we are funded by the community for the community.”
