Boyne Boats and the Devenish Estate at Dowth have joined forces to offer an amazing experience following in the paddle strokes and footsteps of our ancestors.
On Thursday 17th August, they’re offering you the opportunity to follow the ancient route created by our ancestors over 5,000 years ago, to paddle and walk the Boyne River and UNESCO World Heritage area.
Immerse yourself in nature and history. Paddle a hand built traditional Irish currach upstream on the Boyne River just like our forefathers would have done many times over millenia and during the construction of Newgrange over 5,000 years ago.
Step off your vessel onto the sacred Lands at Dowth and continue the journey by foot through woodland, farmland and archaeological marvels exclusive to this experience.
Highlights:
- Develop your paddling technique on Ireland’s oldest canal – The Boyne Navigation
- Leave the canal through a natural canopy of trees and emerge onto the Boyne River
- Reset and connect to our ancestors as we paddle upstream into the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bru na Boinne
- Disembark onto the Lands at Dowth – An innovative sustainability farm connecting the farmers of the past to the farmers of the future
- Walk through the woods and natural biodiversity and maybe glimpse a herd of wild deer
- Learn about the advances in sustainable agriculture within a protected landscape
- Artisan Picnic in a 2,500BC henge
- Marvel at the archaeological gems buried right beneath a 250 year old house – Dowth Hall
- Back to the boats and return home. Suitable for adults only.
