Boyne AC brought 2022 to a close on Saturday by honouring the achievements of eight of the club’s young athletes for their outstanding performances during the year.
Each athlete had won an All-Ireland medal in either the National Indoor or Outdoor Track and Field Championships, a tough task for even the most talented of athletes, with qualification secured only by placing in the top three in the Leinster Championships.
Euan Canniffe had an amazing season, as he took bronze in the junior mens Javelin, and silver in the Discus. Another talented thrower, Oliver Carolan took a well deserved bronze in the u15 Shot Put in both the Indoor and Outdoor championships.
Super sprinter Leon King Abor took the National u19 Indoor 200m title back in March and followed up with a silver in the 60m sprint, while sister Nina took silver in her Indoor 60m competition.
Wrapping up a successful Indoor competition, the boys u19 4 x 200m relay team were just pipped on the line for first place, taking home a well deserved Silver medal for their combined efforts, with great runs from Adam Byrne, Sean Stratton, Max Kingston and Cathal Monaghan.
The commitment to their sport and the hard work by all of these talented young athletes is an inspiration to many of the younger members of the club, hoping to one day emulate their successes.
Huge thanks and praise must also go to club coaches Ken Meier, Keith Byrne and Pat Canniffe for their support, and to the dedicated parents who travel the length and breadth of the country to get their athletes to all the various competitions.
