Boyne AC annual sports day 2023 a huge success

The ever-popular Boyne AC annual sports day was a huge success this year attracting athletes from near and far to compete in a variety of events.

The open event saw juveniles from as far afield as Donegal make the journey to compete, and along with plenty of local representation , the day was once again a huge success.

Boyne Ac athletes were out in force to represent their club, with fantastic performances from each and every one.  Young Stella Gow got things off to a great start as she took silver in the girls u8 60m and 200m race, with Cormac Brodigan taking bronze in the boys 60m sprint.

Competing in her first event for Boyne AC, Beyla Stone finished in a fine second place in the girls u9 300m, while in the u10 girls race, Caitlin Hughes took bronze.

No stranger to the medal winners podium, Cillian Hickey took gold in the u11 boys 80m sprint and added silver in the 500m race, with clubmate Will Gow taking bronze. Isabelle Winters ran a solid race in the u11 girls 600m, to take the win, while Eoin McEntee was just pipped at the post finishing second in his u13 600m race.

Talented sprinter, Bonnie Hegarty took the win in the u14 girls 100m sprint, as did Hannelle Raji in the u16 girls’ race, while in the longer distances, it was bronze for Naoise McAvinia in the u15 800m, and yet another gold for Jack Garvey in the u16 boys’ race. Hannah Newman continues to impress as she took gold in both the u18 100m and 400m, with teammate Amy Rice taking silver in the 400m, and Caoimhin McShane taking gold in the boys u18 sprint.

The field events also saw plenty of podium places for Boyne AC, with Heather Kingston getting things underway with a fine win in the u9 girls turbo javelin, throwing a huge 10.27m.

Beyla Stone threw 8.80m to take bronze, with fine throws also from Sophie Alhaddad, Stella Gow, Millie Winters, Millie Bell, Lucy Walsh and Ruby Winters.

In the boys event, Rasmus Fangerau proved his training in paying off as he took silver with a throw of 11.23, with fine performances too from Cormac Brodigan, Conor Hughes, Kelton Stone and Mikey Kavanagh.

Maisie Fay competed well in the u10 Long Jump, while in the boys event, Ethan Kane just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th position. Also competing well were Joseph McBennett, Stephen Daly, Sean Daly, Tadgh Lawlor, James Byrne, Adam Kelly and Charlie Cooper.

Aoife McCabe finished 6th in the u11 long jump, while in the boys event, it was a double podium for Boyne AC, with George Curran taking the win, and Cillian Hickey finishing 2nd. Harry Kingston finished a fine 5th with clubmates Charlie Kelly, Sean Clarke and Garvan Lundon also competing well.

In the u11 boys Turbo Javelin, Eben Stone threw 11.96m, with teammate Noah Seery throwing 9.18m. Talented long jumper Hila Raji took silver in the u12 girls event, just 1cm behind the winner, with great jumps also from Emily Ralejckyte, Ruby Cooper, Moya Kennedy, Laoise Black, Sarah Ann Walsh and Daniel Kelly in the boys event.

In the u13 Shot Put, Ellen Boylan just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th place, as did Ruadhan Fangerau with his 4th place finish in the boys event, with Emily Vluckyte also throwing well in the girls shot put.

In the u14 long jump, Cuan Gamble was unlucky not to be in the medals, as he finished in 6th place overall, while in the u14 Javelin, Sean Alhaddad put his recent training to good use as he secured the bronze medal with a throw of 15.16m, and also took bronze in the u15 shot put.

In the girls event, Hannelle Raji took a comfortable win with 9.74m, while it was silver for Evan Gamble in the boys event with a throw of 7.14m. Hannelle also took silver in the u16 Long Jump, with clubmates Amy Rice and Rebecca Heading finishing in the top 10, while in the boys event, Sam Doyle finished in 6th place. 

Shauna Rice finished 5th in the girls u16 javelin, while it was back onto the podium for Evan Gamble as he finished 3rd in the boys event. It was another double podium for Boyne AC in the u17 girls Shot Put, with Amy Rice taking the win, and Rebecca Heading in 2nd, while finishing off a great day all round, Hannah Newman took the win in both the u18 women’s Javelin and Long Jump.
