There is a distinctly musical theme for the next Walk ‘n’ Talk history tour to be presented by local historian Brendan Matthews on Wednesday evening next July 5th at Georges Square Drogheda starting at 7.30pm.
Brendan’s theme will bet the life and times of the Drogheda weaver, ballad singer and song writer John Sheil, 1784 – 1872,
Brendan will tell the story of the extraordinary life of this radical weaver John Sheil, who also wrote hundreds of songs which he sold to the massive ballad-sheet industry of the early 19th century.
As the Walk n Talk moves through the streets and lanes of old Drogheda, there will also be a chance to hear some of the wonderful songs of yesteryear sung by locally renowned ballad singers and song collectors who will join Brendan on this particular walk.
There is no charge for this event but donations will be gratefully accepted on the evening.
