Another Drogheda Historical Walk ‘n’ Talk on July 20

Community Historian Brendan Matthews will present a Walk n Talk on Wednesday evening next, July 20th beginning at St. Peter`s Church of Ireland, Peter Street at 7.30pm.

Brendan will elaborate on the origins and history of St. Peter`s Church and the surrounding graveyard before moving through the area called the Alleys and the unique and secluded `Widows Houses`.

The Walk will then proceed over William Street into King St. where the history of the Art Deco Technical School of the mid 1930`s will be outlined.

The Walk n talk will then move along down Palace Street and cross over into Francis Street approaching St. Laurence medieval Town Gate from its exterior, before passing through the Gate where the evening will be brought to a close in upper Laurence Street.

The demise of the former Grammar School and the beautiful surrounding street architecture of the 18th century will also be discussed.

Note: there is no charge for this event, however donations for the further research and presentation of community history will be gratefully accepted on the evening.
