Age Friendly Louth’s first event of 2025, an introduction to the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), will take place in the Gallery Meeting Room, Louth County Council Civic Offices, Fair Street, Drogheda on Wednesday, January 22nd from 11am-1pm.
The introduction will explain what AI is and outline how we are already interfacing with it in our everyday lives, through the use of smartphones and social media. The introduction will also outline some of the benefits associated with AI and discuss some of the challenges around AI.
This will be followed by a presentation by Paula Kelly from TU Dublin’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Paula will be accompanied by some of her fellow researchers who will give an overview and introduction to their research projects in the area of AI and will showcase some of their current projects.
Sinead McVerry, Louth Age Friendly Programme manager said: “The County Louth Older People’s Council (OPC) have identified the area of AI as one that older people would like more information on.
“This event is a gentle introduction to the topic of AI and will also give our participants a chance to discuss some current AI projects with researchers from TU Dublin.
“It will also be an opportunity for people, should they wish, to be a part of current and future AI projects with the researchers from TU Dublin.”
Joe Grogan, chairperson of County Louth Older People’s Council (OPC) said: “We are hearing about AI constantly on the news and in the media.
“It is important that as older people we keep up to date with new technological developments, particularly AI, and see how it affects and benefits older people in County Louth.”
The event will be the first in a planned suite of AI workshops/training provided to older people across County Louth. As such, there will be an opportunity for older people attending the event to suggest what they would like to see in terms of future events/information on the topic of AI.
