Ace AC’s Lorcan Forde Dunne wins U17 national 1500m indoor championship

Ace athletes win four National medals over the weekend

National medals for any young athlete can be few and far between but last weekend, at the Irish indoor Championships in Athlone County Westmeath, Ace AC managed to secure no less than four National athletics medals in one weekend.

Star of the weekend was Lorcan Forde Dunne who, fresh from his first International last week, became the U17 national 1500m indoor champion with an incredible performance on Saturday. This was his first national title.

Eimear Cooney who also had a cross country international only a week ago managed her transition back into the track in style, securing a third place in the national u18 1500m having fought off some serious challenges along the way.

Just a day later Lorcan pulled off his second remarkable result of the weekend finishing in second place in the 800m and was less than a second away from securing his second National Title of the weekend but was pipped at the post for gold in a nerve wracking sprint finish.

The medals kept coming for Ace AC when Sholah Lawrence managed to secure a brilliant 3rd in the 800m. Sholah had come through a very tough semi-final earlier in the day and managed to keep her composure in a tactical final to secure National Bronze.

Also over the weekend, Ace AC athletes managed to qualify through top three finishes in Leinster, with Shea O’Donnnell, Stevie Wong, Chloe Cooney, Shruiti Prasad, & Ciara O’Connor all running their hearts out but not managing to secure medals on this occasion.

With the track season only starting we can expect lots more to come in the months ahead for Ace AC.
