Today was a special day at St. Brigid’s and St. Patrick’s National School in Bothar Brugha. Actually, according to some of the parents we met every day at the schools is great but today was extra special.
The occasion was of course the school’s Halloween Fancy Dress Day and when Drogheda Life arrived at the end of the school day it was obvious that the kids had enjoyed every minute of it.
There were all sorts of scary little monsters playing together in the school yard and on the green outside the school gate.
Almost every member of the Harry Potter series was in attendance with Hermione Granger being the most popular costume of all. There were children with super powers everywhere.
It wasn’t just the school’s pupils that were excited either. Many of the teachers also got out their fancy dress costumes and even Rhonda the lollipop lady got all dressed up for the occasion.
We particularly liked the costumes of three of the teachers Coral Kennedy, Niamh Dowd and Kate Healy who emerged from the school dressed as the “Three Little Piggies”. A brave move that for a teacher!

There was a serious side to the proceedings also and that was to raise funds for the fifth floor at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
The idea for that came from 12-year-old Keelin Donnelly whose sister Hannah (The Warrior Princess) is no stranger to the work that is carried out on the Fifth Floor.
Well done to Keelin and everyone else involved, staff, parents and pupils between them have so far raised €820 and that total is climbing all the time.
If you’d like to contribute just give what you can to someone associated with the school or drop it in to reception. Enjoy the photos:
