A Different Kind of Valentine: Supporting Everyday Financial Goals This February

February is often associated with romance and grand gestures, but for many people, love shows up in quieter, more practical ways. It can mean planning ahead, easing pressure, or finally taking care of something you’ve been putting off. That’s the thinking behind Love to Lend Month, which has just been launched by Drogheda Credit Union.

The campaign is designed to gently encourage members to think about what they need right now, whether that’s getting a car back on the road, covering an unexpected expense, funding home improvements, planning a family milestone, or simply creating a bit of breathing room after a tough few months.

For many people, borrowing isn’t about indulgence. It’s about very real, everyday needs. Replacing a boiler that finally gave up. Paying for a course to upskill or change direction. Consolidating bills to make monthly finances easier to manage. Even small things, like spreading the cost of Christmas or a family celebration, can make a big difference to peace of mind.

Yet despite how common borrowing is, it still comes with a lot of unspoken questions. People often wonder if they’ll qualify, how long approval will take, whether repayments can be adjusted if circumstances change, or if it’s better to wait until everything feels “perfect”. One of the aims of Love to Lend Month is to create space for those conversations, without pressure or judgement.

Throughout February, members who draw down a loan will be entered into a €500 cash-back draw, with a complimentary box of chocolates also offered as a small thank you. But the real focus of the campaign is on making the experience feel human and supportive, not transactional.

As part of this, Drogheda Credit Union will host an out-of-hours Loan Night. On Thursday, 19th February from 6-8PM across all loan branches in Drogheda, East Meath, Trim and Dunleer. The evening is designed for people who prefer to sit down and talk things through in person, away from busy counters or online forms. Members can meet the lending team one on one, ask questions, explore options and get clarity, all in a relaxed setting.

As part of their love to lend campaign, Drogheda Credit Union will also host an online Lunch & Learn Mortgage Session on Monday, 23rd February. This online session is open to the public and aims to educate people in learning about the mortgage process and what Drogheda Credit Union can do to help them secure a home. In an age where so much financial decision-making happens through apps and automated systems, the opportunity to connect face to face still matters. Having someone explain your options, listen to your concerns and help tailor a solution can make all the difference, especially when the decision feels important or personal.

Love to Lend Month is ultimately about reassurance. About reminding people that support is there, conversations are welcome, and that taking a step towards your goals doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Sometimes the most meaningful kind of love is simply making life a little easier.
