Tomorrow, Tuesday December 10, is International Human Rights Day and the Drogheda Creative Writers Group is marking the occasion with a special event, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now” on Wednesday in the Highlanes Gallery in Laurence Street.
The annual International Human Rights Day commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly on 10th December 1948 which promotes and celebrates the 30 fundamental human rights and freedoms and is a reminder of the importance of upholding them and addressing issues related to social justice and equality.
This year Drogheda Creative Writers have organized a free event where local poets and writers will explore the theme of empowering individuals, communities and people to build a better future through their words and reflections in Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda on Wednesday 11th December at 3pm.
They will use words as a common thread to bind us all together to foster peace and stability and reflect on how social change can reshape unjust societies and empower marginalized groups.
This is the second year that Drogheda Creative Writers will celebrate Human Rights Day at Highlanes Gallery and they want to inspire everyone to reach out and connect and build strong social movements that work for equality, justice and peace.
The Drogheda Creative Writers group is based in Barlow House, Drogheda where established, emerging and new writers and poets meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7.30pm to read and discuss their work. They also collaborate with other writers groups and perform regularly at various events.
All writers and poets are welcome to come along. Further details about the group can be found on their Facebook page. Drogheda Creative Writers would like to thank Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda Library and Highlanes Gallery for their continued support.
“Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now Poetry event will be Drogheda Creative Writers last event of 2024 and they wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
