When Christopher Menary released his first children’s book ‘The Coin from the Boyne’ last July he spoke about his lack of self-confidence which almost prevented him from writing. He persisted however and the book was published and now he has followed it up with another.
The new book Midnight Shadows-Volume 1 Like and Subscribe is the first in a series of kid’s Horror and mystery stories aimed at 8-14 year-olds which he says would also be enjoyed by adults who read the Goosebumps series of books growing up.
The story follows Mark, his little brother Ryan, and his best friend Stew. Ryan has been acting really strange ever since his Aunt Kelly bought him an electronic tablet for his 8th birthday.
Mark and Stew investigate his weird behaviour and find a menacing Jester behind the unusual antics. Can Mark and Stew put a stop to the Jester’s plotting ways before he takes over the town’s children?
“The inspiration for the series was taken from my love of all things scary as a child” Christopher said. “I used to read goosebumps and spinechillers and watch Are you afraid of the dark and Scooby-Doo. I think there is a small bit of each in my story.
“I would like to thank Kate O’Brien, Fintan Harmon, and Luke Healy for reading and feeding back and also students of St. Oliver’s Community College. Ema Raizyte, Paola Kobas, Cristina Cebtari and Evgeniia (Jenny) Bashilova.
“I would also like to thank Nicola Kearns for editing and helping me to publish and Maxine Quigley from Creative customs for her amazing cover art!
Midnight Shadows is out on February 1st and can be purchased on Buythebook.ie or Amazon.
