Drogheda & District AC Take on Elite Runners at Antrim Coast Half Marathon

Drogheda & District AC athletes mixed it up with some of the world’s elite runners at the prestigious Antrim Coast Half Marathon on a bright and sunny Sunday morning.

The course, known for its fast start and challenging hills, offered favorable conditions for some excellent performances.

The race was won by Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor in a blistering 59 minutes and 51 seconds. Drogheda & District AC’s fastest man on the day was Liam Mulligan, who put in a solid performance to finish in 1:12:47.

John Perkins had a terrific run, completing the course in a speedy 1:35:12.

He said he “really enjoyed the race, it’s such a beautiful place to run along the coast.” He noted that the first half of the race, with a slight decline and tailwind, was much quicker, while the return journey was more challenging with an incline and headwind. “The wind cooled you down a bit as it was a warm day,” he added.

Other strong performances came from Stephane Mainguard, who finished in a solid 1:40:49, and Dave Cooney, who powered home in 1:45:06.

Tomas Ahern completed the race in 1:55:27, and Karl Cooney finished in 2:06:42, rounding out a great showing from the club.
