Disabled parking must be a priority in New Year says Callan

The Deputy Mayor of Drogheda, Kevin Callan, has said that increased visibility and volume of disabled parking spaces across Drogheda must be prioritised in 2024.

Cllr Callan says he had fought throughout 2023 to have multiple disabled parking bays repainted as well as additional spaces being introduced at locations such as beside the church and shops at Ballsgrove.

“The council responded very positively to my requests in the year gone by to review the spaces dotted across the town and many have been repainted and signage improved” Callan said and added that “this work needs to increase in 2024.”

The independent councillor said that a number of additional spaces are needed at parks and outside pharmacies such as at Ballsgrove where he has asked for an additional disabled space to be put right outside the chemist in question.

“I am looking forward to continue to work on locations across Drogheda this year where we can make sure that everyone has access to services and facilities when parking facilities are required.

“The spaces we currently have are located at town centre points, outside shops and parks and also in residential areas on our streets which were installed to facilitate residents parking when the person required the markings. Over time some of these have totally worn away so I will be working in the residential areas as well.

“If anyone requires assistance or has any requests regarding such parking bays please contact me at Kevin.callan@louthcoco.ie
