Drogheda United fan group ‘The Famous 45 Ultra’s’ are hosting yet another fundraising drive for Drogheda Women’s and Children’s Refuge, this coming Friday April 26th at Home of the Drogs – Weaver’s Park during the Drogheda United V Sligo Rovers match.
Following the groups exceptionally successful ‘Drogs Sleep Out’ before Christmas which raised a staggering 11k for the local refuge, the determined young men are now rowing in behind the GO PURPLE 2024 Campaign.
Next Friday 3rd May is Go Purple Day, which sees a collaborative effort led by An Garda Siochana alongside domestic abuse services across Ireland. The goal is to raise awareness about the resources available to those affected by domestic abuse and violence, while also working to diminish the stigma around seeking support.
The F45U group have built a great relationship with Drogheda Women’s and Childrens Refuge here in the town and have used the GO PURPLE Campaign as an endeavour to fundraise once more for this worthy cause. Whilst launching a PR campaign throughout the week urging all Home Fans to wear their home colours to the match this Friday in support of GO Purple 2024, they have also also initiated a series of bucket collections around the ground through the night which will then be donated to the Refuge.

The fundraiser event is supported by Drogheda United FC, and Club Chairperson Joanna Byrne is encouraging all Drogs supporters to get behind the young fans group and support their endeavours on this fundraiser.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the F45U for once again taking the initiative to channel their energy in something so worthwhile. They raised a huge amount of money already for this organisation before Christmas and I know the Refuge were exceptionally grateful for this. For them to continue working to support such vital services in the Refuge is to be commended, and for young people to be socially aware of the struggles people in our community face is heart-warming to see. “
“We’ve seen the successes of the Club and the fan’s collectively making a difference in our community and this is the relationship I want to continue to build on and harness with our Ultra’s. I’ve every confidence that Drogs will rally in their droves to contribute to this fundraiser and I’d encourage them to do so, every little bit donated will go a long way to making a huge difference. “
