Mckee welcomes start of road safety scheme on Main Street, Duleek

East Meath Councillor, Stephen McKee (FF), has welcomed the start of works on the new signalised junction of Station Road and Main Street in Duleek.

“I am pleased that work has started on the new traffic calming table and new traffic lights at the junction of Main Street and the Station Road which are badly needed” McKee said.

“I have lobbied hard for this project to be carried out and I’ve asked Meath County Council to ensure that it is completed as swiftly as possible to mitigate disruption and inconvenience to the public.

“These works will form part of an overall Duleek Public Realm Plan which will be developed to improve public infrastructure in the village, improve the environment for local business to flourish and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

“It will be important that adequate funding is provided to ensure that any agreed Public Realm Plan can be fully funded and that the work is fully carried out.

“The new road safety and traffic calming works for the bottom of Station Road onto Main Street are very welcome. Traffic calming is badly needed also on the Station Road, on the Longford Road, the Navan Road and out at Duleek Soccer Club at Carranstown.

In conclusion, McKee said: “There are just far too many HGV’s coming through the village. Long-term, the Bypass is critical.”
