A red-tailed bumblebee, butterfly, fox, peacock and kingfisher have appeared around Drogheda town centre as part of a new public art project.
Love Drogheda BID has commissioned an artist to transform electrical boxes around the town into small works of art, creating a wildlife-themed trail for people to discover as they make their way through Drogheda.
The artworks currently listed include a red-tailed bumblebee, red admiral butterfly, urban fox, peacock and kingfisher.
The idea is to bring a little more colour to everyday journeys through the town centre while giving residents and visitors something unexpected to look out for.
Trevor Connolly, CEO of Love Drogheda BID, said:
“This is a small project, but one we hope will bring a smile to people’s faces.
“Whether you’re heading to work, meeting a friend or visiting the shops, we’d love you to see how many of the six you can find.”
More artworks planned
The new pieces are the first phase of a wider collaborative project involving Love Drogheda BID, Droichead Arts Centre and Drogheda Tidy Towns.
The project is expected to develop further into 2027, with more works planned.
Droichead Arts Centre is currently preparing a call for local artists to submit proposals for the next stage of the project.
In the meantime, Love Drogheda BID is encouraging people to take a closer look as they walk through the town centre and see how many of the new wildlife artworks they can spot.
