The Sandpit kitten rescue began when a group of young people came to the aid of a kitten after it became stranded behind a bread bin in the MACE shop in Sandpit, Termonfeckin.
The kitten was safely freed by shop manager Will with the help of Flynn Breen, Dara Keegan, Kayden Keegan and Ryan O’Shaughnessy.
Shirley Keegan, mum of Dara and Kayden, was also there and helped during the rescue.
Kitten now being cared for
Once the kitten had been freed, Ryan took it with him and fed it immediately.
He is now looking after the kitten while efforts continue to find its owner, with those involved hoping it can be reunited with its family.
The rescue was a real team effort, with the group coming together to help the animal after it found itself stuck inside the local shop.

The Sandpit kitten rescue also featured on LMFM’s Lite Lunch with Gerry Kelly, where Will spoke on air about what had happened and how the group worked together to free the kitten.
The story has highlighted a simple act of kindness from the young people involved, who stepped in to help when the animal was in difficulty.
